My education & training: I have a Biology degree from Bowling Green State University, but my real training started around age 10 when I was diagnosed with Stargardt Disease (early onset macular degeneration). I attribute many important life lessons to having lived a life with a vision impairment.

If you could meet any living person for dinner, who would you pick and why: I would love to meet Bruce Springsteen! I became a big fan of his music when I was a teenager. When I started writing songs myself nearly 25 years later, I was influenced by his writing style. No one tells a story like Bruce does. More impressively, he keeps creating and reinventing himself. I would enjoy learning from him over a good meal.

What is the best advice you have been given: The best advice I’ve ever received was a Mark Twain quote hanging on my best friend’s wall twenty years ago:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So  throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

If you had to teach one topic, what would you teach: I would teach a course on songwriting.

What is your entrance music/theme song: Bruce Springsteen’s “The Rising”

I have worked in nonprofit, for profit, and government agencies for the past 30 years helping individuals find their way through life. My most valuable education has come from the people I have served throughout the years!

If you could meet any living or non-living person for dinner, who would you pick and why: I would choose the Founding Fathers – I have many questions.

What is the best advice you have been given: I have a few: Every day is a school day no matter your age. When a person needs to talk about something, ask them if they are needing to vent or are wanting advice.

If you had to teach one topic, what would you teach: I would teach a home economics class on cooking, sewing, handling finances, and making homemade cleaning and body care products.

What is your entrance music/theme song: Break My Stride, Carry on Wayward Son, or anything disco.

If you had to teach one topic, what would you teach: Sighted Guide! I really get on my soap box about this subject!

What is your entrance music/theme song: Oh gee, I’m not good with naming songs because that is not how my brain works.  I love music and I love to sing, but picking out a song is not my forte. And I would never enjoy coming into a room with theme music.  I’m an introvert.  But, if I could pick a song to sing, it might be Dancing Queen, from ABBA.  😊

Education and Training: I earned  Firefighter 1, 2, and EMT-Basic certifications from BGSU and Owens Community College in 2019. If you could meet any living person for dinner, who would you pick and why? I love to laugh so I would choose actor, Steve Carell.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given: Life is better lived when you don’t center it on what’s happening around you and center it on what’s happening inside you instead. Work on yourself and your inner peace and good things will come your way.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given: A former supervisor once told me that I will fall flat on my face. To some that would be interpreted as being one of the most offensive things that could be said to a person. To me that was one of the most freeing statements. It meant that I was allowed to make mistakes and learn from them, that they aren’t something to be feared.
